was formed in June 1991 under the patronage of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. It was during a visit by Her Royal Highness to London in January 1991 to attend classes a SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies) in the University of London that HRH recognised an opportunity to promote and develop Thai music.
"Thai Music Project in the Netherlands" was set up in 2011 by H.E. Dr. Virachai Plasai, Thai Ambassador to the Netherlands At the beginning, the project leader was Jutamas Poprasit (Khru Khong) and since then, teachers from the TMC in UK have travelled to the Netherlands to continue this project. This group is now know as "The Thai Music Circle in the Netherlands"
The School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, received its full set of Thai musical instruments from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in 1991. In the same year, the SOAS Thai Music Group was established two former SOAS students taught the group - Dr Dusadee Swangviboonpong (1991-2002) and Paphutsorn Wongratanapitak (2002-2007). In May 2015, the Buddhavihara Temple Amsterdam in the Netherlands, by way of cooperation with the Department of Non-Formal Education instigated a programme of non formal education classes to people interested in Thai language and culture, including Thai classical music. Dr Jutamas Poprasit, a former teacher at the Thai Music Circle in the UK (TMC UK), was invited to be the Advisor to the Thai classical music course. Teachers from the TMC UK visit once per month and hold classes containing students age 5-24 years.
